What is your role at UP Health System – Marquette?
I am the Lead Dietitian in the Nutrition and Wellness, Diabetes Education Department at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
Believe it or not, it was cancer. When I was a junior in high school, my mom was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and had a difficult treatment and recovery process. Thankfully, she is still in remission today, but seeing her in the hospital, drastically losing weight, and experiencing malnutrition inspired me to explore a career in nutrition to study all the ways that nutrition can make an impact on your life — especially those experiencing treatment for cancer.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
I primarily work with inpatients, so most of my morning is spent researching patient information, seeing patients, and working with my team. My afternoons are usually spent charting, and seeing the occasional outpatient.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I started working here as a Dietitian in December 2012, and recently moved into my current role as Lead Dietitian.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I love spending time with my family and seeing my two boys experience things for the first time. I like traveling and trying new restaurants. I love camping and being outdoors in general. I also enjoy a good book.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
The patients! I love feeling like I am able to really help them and make an impact on their lives for the better. That is why I do what I do!
