Contributing to a Healthier Region

Community Benefit Reports

UP Health System’s mission is simple – making communities healthier®. By creating places where people choose to come for healthcare, physicians and providers want to practice and employees want to work, we are providing quality care close to home and investing in our region’s overall well-being. Your support allows us to continue to enhance the many ways we serve and care for our communities today and for generations to come.

Over the past decade, we’ve distributed $3+ billion locally to advance the health and economic wellbeing across the Upper Peninsula including:

Recruiting new providers to our team

Inviting the best possible providers into our community and supporting them is essential to ensuring access to high-quality care. From new emergency and family medicine providers to specialists, we are proud to be home to more than 300 providers representing 65 specialties.

Making $400+ million in capital improvements

From our new 222-bed specialty care hospital that opened in Marquette in 2019 to investments in advanced technology and facility upgrades across the UP, we’re helping to ensure that we continue to meet our community’s healthcare needs.

Donating $150+ million in services to those in need

Delivering care to all of our neighbors, regardless of their ability to pay, is foundational to our mission and our commitment to our community.

Investing $20+ million in community benefit programs

We are proud to partner with and support many organizations, activities and events across the UP that support our mission of making communities healthier.

Paying $250+ million in taxes

We are proud to be a leader in our region, and our dedication to ensuring fiscal responsibility extends both to our hospital and to our communities.

Distributing a payroll of more than $2+ billion

As one of the largest employers across the UP, we strive to create an environment where talent is recognized, job satisfaction is valued and our employees can effectively use their skills to provide high-quality care and services.
