UP Health System – Marquette earns American College of Radiology Accreditation in Computed Tomography
July 28, 2025
MARQUETTE, Mich. (July 28, 2025) – UP Health System – Marquette (UPHS – Marquette) has earned a three-year accreditation in computed tomography (CT) from the American College of Radiology (ACR). The hospital was last accredited in 2022.
This voluntary accreditation process evaluates facilities based on national standards for image quality and patient safety. Areas assessed include image quality, personnel qualifications, equipment adequacy, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
CT imaging, also known as a CAT scan, is a noninvasive imaging technique that uses X-rays and computer technology to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the body. These images help providers visualize internal organs, bones, soft tissues and blood vessels to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities that meet ACR practice parameters and technical standards following a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists.
“At UPHS – Marquette, we remain deeply committed to delivering high-quality imaging services and compassionate care to our patients,” said Tonya Darner, chief executive officer. “This reaccreditation reflects the expertise, hard work and ongoing dedication of our team to advancing care for the communities we serve.”
UPHS – Marquette offers a full range of diagnostic imaging services, including 3D mammography, 3D ultrasound, 64-slice CT scanning, digital X-ray, nuclear medicine, PET/CT, wide-bore MRI and stereotactic breast biopsy. All studies are performed by skilled technologists and interpreted by board-certified radiologists on the UPHS – Marquette medical staff.
The hospital also offers a variety of image-guided interventional procedures in collaboration with radiologists, including:
- Fluid aspirations
- Needle biopsies of the breast, liver, lung, bone, thyroid and prostate
- Pain management procedures, such as epidural steroid and joint injections
Founded in 1924, the ACR is a professional medical society representing more than 37,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists. Its mission is to advance the practice and science of radiological care.
