Bronwyn Roell, RN | Hospital Supervisor for UPHS – Marquette
What is your official title?
Hospital Supervisor for UPHS – Marquette
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
When I was in high school, I found I really liked the healthcare fields, and my mother suggested I look into nursing. The college I applied to was directly into the nursing program so I jumped right into the learning. I found I really enjoyed working with patients.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
No day is ever the same as a hospital supervisor. I do a lot of problem-solving during my shift, and it becomes a creative juggling act. I round on every unit during my shift. We help place all of the incoming patients, and field phone calls from visitors and families. I help our team and act as a resource when needed.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been here for 21 years! I started as a staff RN in ICU, then went to hospital supervising on nights for 5 years, then to the cardiac unit as an assistant manager for 8 years, then to hospital education for 4 years before circling back to the hospital supervisor job again in 2018. I’ve had the pleasure of working in many areas of our hospital.
What are some of the big changes you have experiences in this position?
The role of the hospital supervisor has changed over the last 18 years. New ownership of the organization brought new expectations and a new vision with an entirely new facility.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I enjoy spending time with my family, going to camp, jet-skiing, mountain biking, and skiing. My daughter is a champion swimmer and I enjoy watching her compete.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
The people who work here. We are truly like a family.
