UP Health System – Marquette Heroes | Robin Luke

What is your role at UP Health System – Marquette?
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I used to work in retail and wanted a completely different career path working with the public.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day for me involves answering phone calls, checking patients in and out, scheduling, maintaining communication with staff, messaging nurses, maintaining a welcoming environment in our office, helping with referrals, getting records, labs, radiology, and coordinating with the providers.
It is very rewarding being able to see the smiles on the children’s faces knowing we are here to help them. Also, it is very fulfilling to see children go from newborns to young adults to having babies of their own.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been employed for 16 years and have had the same position the whole time.
What are some of the significant changes you have experienced in this position?
There is always change when new providers come into the practice and when providers leave. It requires a lot of adjustment, and it's difficult when we've cultivated those relationships. Navigating the pandemic was also a huge change. Our schedules fluctuated and we followed strict safety protocols like using personal protective equipment.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I have six grandkids who I love spending time with. I also enjoy crafting and my two birds, Conway and Loretta. But my biggest interest outside of work and family is LUKE BRYAN! I don’t have a favorite local gem as there are way too many to choose from in our area.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I have met so many interesting people through the years who have brought me a lot of laughter and I have the best coworkers a person could ask for. I also love how UPHS – Marquette is about keeping the community healthy.
