UPHS – Bell Heroes | Jamie Zaleski, RN

November 06, 2026

What is your role at UPHS – Bell?

My current role at UPHS - Bell is clinical project coordinator, in which I have helped the team at Bell with chest pain, trauma and stroke accreditation. In this role, I also do all clinical education. I am currently transitioning to case management.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

When I was a child, my mom had open-heart surgery; I helped with dressing changes and medication with her. It sparked an interest in the human body and how it works. I went to school and became an LPN for 17 years and then went back to get my RN.

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

I work closely with the ED staff, complete chart audits and work on the trauma, chest pain and stroke programs. In the last week, I have begun to learn about case management. Each of these two roles brings different challenges. I enjoy being challenged and I feel it is important to keep learning.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I started at Bell as an LPN on the ACU, then left to get my RN. After working at UPHS - Marquette, I came to Bell almost two years ago, working in education and now in case management.

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?

Making the position my own was one of the biggest changes. As I learned each program, I learned how to create systems that worked to stay organized and complete the tasks required for the position.

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

Outside of work, I love hanging out with my two boys and my daughter. I love being outdoors. I walk my two dogs, Zara and Delylah, every day when I get off work. I also recently found joy in mountain biking on the trails while my husband runs. I love hiking and being in nature. One of my favorite spots is Sugar Loaf.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?

I am a Bell baby, and so are my kids. I enjoy Bell; the environment here is like family. Walking through the halls, everyone says hi, and we all know each other. UP Health System is a place where my own family has received care and the people who work here desire to take care of our community.
