What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am a second shift maintenance worker at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I have had many family members work in healthcare, and it's rewarding to make a difference in our community when others are at their worst times.
What's a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day includes a wide range of tasks, from inspecting exit signs and handling minor plumbing issues to taking readings on our boilers and air handler units, and everything in between.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
In July, I will have been working at the hospital for five years in the same position I hold now.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
The biggest change I have seen in my position is that almost everything is done electronically on computers.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite gem?
I enjoy camping, fishing, hunting, or spending time with my wife, Sarah, and our two beagles, Rambo and Lola. My favorite gem is Gaines Rock in South Marquette.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
What I enjoy most about my job is that it keeps me busy, and I enjoy making our patients comfortable.
