What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am a clinical office clerk for Neurosurgery, Brain and Spine at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I enjoy helping people, and I hope a warm smile can make their day just a little better.
What's a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day for me includes greeting patients as they arrive at the clinic, checking them in, ensuring all paperwork is completed, and answering phone calls.
In this role, we are the first point of contact for patients, shaping their initial impression of our office and the hospital. By showing kindness and understanding, we help set a positive tone for the entire visit. The patient experience truly begins with us at check-in, and it’s our job to make them feel cared for from the very start.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been in my position for nine months and have held the same role since I started.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
One of the biggest changes I’ve experienced is the improved communication and collaboration between the front and back staff. We’ve worked toward creating a more seamless workflow, which helps ensure everyone is on the same page and that patients receive consistent, efficient care throughout their visit.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite gem?
Outside of work, I enjoy photography and spending time outdoors. One of my favorite local spots is Black Rocks—I love jumping into the water.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
What I enjoy most is the strong sense of community within the hospital and the way we give back to the greater community we serve.
