UP Health System – Marquette Names Executive Director of Nursing

UP Health System – Marquette (UPHS – Marquette) has named Michael Phillips, RN, MHA, executive director of nursing.

Phillips brings more than 30 years of progressive nursing leadership experience to his new role. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Michigan University and a Master of Healthcare Administration and Management from Colorado State University.

Throughout his career, Phillips has held nursing leadership positions spanning emergency services, acute care, inpatient operations and outpatient services. His experience includes oversight of cardiac, neurosurgical, orthopedic and pediatric services.

Prior to his current role, Phillips served as clinical director of Emergency Services and the Clinical Decision Unit at UP Health System – Marquette. In that role, he provided leadership for 24/7 clinical operations, patient flow and staffing and helped lead the successful opening of the Clinical Decision Unit.

Phillips has played a key role in advancing quality, safety and regulatory readiness throughout his career. His experience includes physician collaboration, workforce development, patient flow and quality improvement, as well as supporting the hospital's Chest Pain Center of Excellence, Primary Stroke Center accreditation and Level II Trauma designation.

Dedicated to patient-centered care and clinical excellence, Phillips is passionate about supporting teams, strengthening nursing operations and creating an environment where patients receive safe, high-quality care and employees are empowered to succeed.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Phillips enjoys outdoor activities, fitness and spending quality time with his family.
