February 6, 2022
UP Health System - Portage is pleased to welcome Keith Wright, DO, back to the Keweenaw to join it's Internal Medicine Clinic.
Dr. Wright earned his Bachelor of Science from Michigan Technological University before receiving his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then went on to complete his Family Practice Residency at Mercy General Health Partners. Dr. Wright is Board-certified in Family Practice.
“I believe that this is the most beautiful part of Michigan, and have often dreamed of living here,” Dr. Wright said. “I love that it is still small enough to be owned and operated by many small shops and businesses, which make it a truly special place.”
Dr. Wright grew up north of Detroit, MI and moved to the Upper Peninsula to attend Michigan Technological University. His wife, a nurse, attended Lake Superior State University.
“My wife and I have found a deep appreciation of the beauties of the UP – the beautiful rolling hills, a proper winter with lots of snow, plenty of natural resources, and the very kind people we’ve grown to know here,” Dr. Wright said.
Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Wright enjoys cross-country skiing, fishing, cooking and traveling, and is excited to return to the UP where he once attended Michigan Tech.
“Partly, as I went to Michigan Tech, it feels a lot like coming home,” Dr. Wright said. “We are delighted with the opportunity to come to the UP.”
Dr. Wright joins the UPHS – Portage Internal Medicine Clinic that is staffed with physicians in a wide range of specialties including cancer care/oncology, dietitians, geriatrics, internal medicine, telemedicine, and anticoagulation management services. He will be providing care for adults for annual exams, wellness visits, routine screenings, preventive care, physicals, chronic disease management, and non-emergency illnesses and injuries.
“My objectives have been and always will be to treat the patient first and foremost,” Dr. Wright said. “The objective is not only to take care of their acute illnesses but really to strive to work toward their future and to make sure that they are in their best health, and help reduce or prevent as much illness as possible, therefore allowing them to live, hopefully, a long and prosperous life.”
Dr. Wright will be practicing at UPHS – Portage Internal Medicine Clinic, located in Suite 4 at 500 Campus Dr. in Hancock and is accepting new patients. Call 906.483.1730 to make an appointment. To learn more about UPHS – Portage, go to PortageHealth.org.
