UPHS – Portage Heroes | Bethanne Cadeau

What is your role at UPHS – Portage? 
I am a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) in the Internal Medicine suite. 

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
It was time for a career change, but I still wanted to be able to help people as much as I could—being a CCMA allows me to do just that. 

What's a typical day like for you? What is it like working in his field?
There is no typical day, which is what I love most about my job. Some days I am getting patients ready for our providers, while other days I am working at the desk getting prior authorizations approved. My job definitely keeps me on my toes and I enjoy that. 

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been here at UPHS – Portage for almost a year, and as of right now I still hold my current position. 

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Some of the big changes I have been experiencing is handling insurance. Not all insurances are the same, and I love the challenge it brings to getting services approved. 

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Outside of work, I love camping, fishing, and bowling. During the summer you will rarely find me indoors. My favorite local gem would have to be Miller's Recreation. They have amazing food, friendly staff and a great bowling alley. 

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Portage?
I enjoy the atmosphere of Portage. We have the friendliest staff, and there is always someone who is willing to help you out and answer patients' medical questions.
