What is your role at UPHS – Portage?

I am a Staff Accountant in the Fiscal Department.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

It was important for my next career opportunity to heavily value the community that I grew up in. I am grateful this opportunity presented itself because it fits what I was looking for perfectly.

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

My day consists of many daily tasks. Some examples are completing the daily stats spreadsheet, assisting with projections and forecasts, account reconciliations and more! It is important to stay organized and complete these tasks in a timely manner, in order to make things smoother on a monthly basis. Projects do come up, but I enjoy the “monthly routine” as an accountant so I can plan for what’s next.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I have been employed with Portage for around two months or so and my position hasn’t changed at all.

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?

Prior to this position, I worked at Finlandia University. With not having any healthcare experience prior to UPHS - Portage, even as an accountant, it has been an adjustment and learning curve learning the medical terminology. Some other changes that I have had to get familiar with are the processes and procedures.

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

I enjoy spending most of my time with friends and family, doing anything from wakeboarding on the canal to traveling. I am a huge Buffalo Bills fan, so a lot of my time in the fall is taken up with watching football. I love being outside in general, especially with where we live. One of my favorite local gems would be Canyon Falls.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Portage?

What I enjoy most about working at UPHS - Portage is the culture and the welcoming environment. I have had the privilege of meeting many great people, only a couple months into being here.
