What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I have been interested in health care for as long as I can remember. Originally, I wanted to become an optometrist, but after working as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for a few years, I chose nursing and haven't looked back.
What's a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
There really is no typical day in the ICU.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been employed at UP Health System – Marquette for 25 years. My first eight years were in the ICU, then I worked in Quality Management for eight years. I returned to the ICU in 2016 and plan on staying here for the rest of my career.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
There have been so many changes. The biggest change has probably been moving to the new hospital.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite gem?
I love spending time with my family, especially my wife and daughter. I also go to the gym and hunt and as much as possible.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
The best part of working here is my coworkers. I am very lucky to be part of a great team.
