What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am a registered nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department (ED) at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I took a course in high school where we were able to go into the hospital. I enjoyed this course and decided to pursue a nursing degree.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
No day is the same as the previous one. The ED environment is fast-paced and is constantly changing.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been employed here since 2015. I started as a registration clerk, then moved to a unit clerk position in 2017. After that, I moved to a licensed practical nurse role in 2019, and finally, in 2021 I became an RN. All of these positions have been in the ED. I also will work in the Intensive Care Unit from time to time.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
While working here I have seen two major changes with the first being assisting with the new hospital transition and the second being the change from the previous electronic medical record system to Cerner.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I enjoy biking and spending time with friends outside of work. Any local brewery is a favorite gem of mine.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I enjoy the people I work with in the ED as well as those throughout the rest of the hospital.
