What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am the Lead Technician for Transfusion Services at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I always enjoyed science in school, leading me to pursue a career in a lab setting.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
It’s very fast-paced working in this field. Luckily, I am surrounded by like-minded, incredibly smart people every day. I love to be part of a team that’s working to save lives!
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have worked here since 2002 — almost 20 years. I spent 3 years working in the main lab, 13 years in Transfusion Services, 3 years at Donor Services and now I’m back in Transfusion.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
One big change was moving into the lead position last September. Another is our current process of converting to a new computer system.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Outside of work, I love watching my son play hockey, going on road trips with my family, and staying active by working out with friends. My favorite local hang-out is my CrossFit gym.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
My coworkers! No one is as lucky as I am to work with these amazing people every day. They make the workday easier with laughs and support. They are the real heroes!
