What is your role at UP Health System – Marquette?
I am a Volunteer at the main entrance information desk and the medical office building information desk at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
My inspiration has always been my passion, drive, and purpose to serve and help people. Another inspiration is my mother, Susan Grigg, who works in the lab at UP Health System – Marquette, along with the strong support of my family.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
As a Volunteer, I help patients, their families, and our community members find their way to and from appointments and surgeries — all the while making sure the safety protocols and policies are followed through. Each and every day is different when working in different parts of the hospital.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been a Volunteer here for just over 5 years.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
The constant updating of safety policies brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic has been a great learning experience. As we continue to navigate the pandemic, I am always gaining new skills and ultimately improving my service to my community.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Outside of work, I love to spend time with family and friends. One of my biggest interests is cheering on the Michigan Tech Hockey team and watching them play at the Macinnes Student Ice Arena — GO HUSKIES!
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I enjoy serving my community while working alongside both my healthcare team and my mom.
