UPHS – Marquette Heroes: Jodi Zanetti
May 21, 2020

What is your official title?
Director of Materials Management.
How did you come into this position?
I did my internship with Northern Michigan University here way back. I was fortunate enough that an opportunity opened up in purchasing, and I was hired and I’ve been here ever since.
I started in 1982, so that would be 38 years on July 1.
What’s it been like to witness the development of this health system through the years?
It has been pretty amazing because there has been an evolving field of so many changes since I first started. All happened for the good, and we move forward in a very positive manner.
What drew you to this field of work?
I think that helping people is always what draws me, and even though I’m not at the bedside with patients, we’re still working hard behind the scenes to provide those with what they need so that every patient gets the best possible outcome.
There are a lot of moving parts that may go into what a patient may need. Some items are hard to find, however, our team goes above and beyond to make sure the patient has everything they need to have the best outcome. It’s rewarding to see our team pull together.
What’s a typical day like for you?
There really isn’t a typical day. I serve more than 100 departments within our health system with all different types of needs, so each day is unique.
But I have to say, first and foremost, the team that I have – they are the people that shine. They make this all happen, and I’m just very blessed. I’m proud to be a part of what they do every day.
How has your role changed during the pandemic?
PPE has been our sole focus, and it’s been a challenging world in that everyone needs it and the manufacturers are working hard to keep up with demand. However, with good purchasing processes and making sure we’re stockpiling when deliveries are delayed, we’ve been able to sustain and keep everyone safe on the frontlines.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I love nature; I like to be outside. I’m really looking forward to getting my hands dirty in the garden. I like to read and especially be with my family and friends, so it’s been a very difficult time to not be together. I basically am just a people person and I like to be around people.
What is your favorite part about working at UPHS-Marquette?
The people. I really enjoy who I work with, not only with my team but with all the other departments that we interact with. We all come together to do what needs to get done in order for the best outcomes, and my peers are fantastic.
