UPHS – Marquette Heroes | Amanda Bivins, LPN, Employee Health
May 8, 2020

What is your official title?
Employee Health Nurse
How did you come into this position?
When I was first hired at the hospital in 2009, this was the position I was hired for. I worked in this until 2014 and then just came back in February.
What was your motivation for a career in healthcare?
I wanted to be a nurse because there are so many different avenues you can pursue. You have patient care, but then you have things like employee health, administrative roles, and so the job opportunities and the way you can help people in health care are pretty flexible.
What’s a typical day like for you?
There really isn’t a typical day. Every day is different. I love how every day is different and I get to help people in any way I can. This is what I like about the position.
How would you describe your role’s responsibilities?
It’s a little mix of everything. I get to do patient care, but my patients are the employees. I see all the new hires that come in. I go to hospital orientation, handle all the work comp issues, employee injuries and accommodations for employees. One of the best parts of my job is I get to do a variety of things.
Everyone is a team and we help each other, and I like the fact that I’m able to help my co-workers.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I like to spend time with my family; I have four boys. Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of yard work with being in quarantine. I also like to hike, craft and to read.
What is your favorite part about working at UPHS-Marquette?
The teamwork from everyone who works here; the collaboration that everyone is willing to do to get the job done and make sure the patients are safe because ultimately, that’s our goal: to make sure that patients are safe.
