What is your role at UP Health System – Portage?
I am a quality care coordinator in the Portage Medical Group (PMG) Clinics.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
When I look back, I think I have always wanted to help people. I became an LPN right after high school, then continued my education to become an RN.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day is following up with patients who have been in the emergency room or discharged from an inpatient setting; educating staff on Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) guidelines; keeping track of and informing the clinic managers of quality measures; closing care gaps; and assuring providers have the information they need to close coding gaps.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I started in Case Management in the inpatient unit six years ago and have been in my current position for three years.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
This was a new position in the clinic when I started so I have seen many changes!
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I enjoy walking and biking. I love spending time with my family. My favorite spot is our camp in Little Traverse.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Portage?
Working with people who want to do the best for the patients we see every day.
