What is your role at UP Health System – Portage?
I am the data and interface analyst at UPHS – Portage, responsible for local data integration, supporting business metrics and ensuring efficient data transfers within the organization and in coordination with vendors.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
The opportunity to improve patient care through technology and data-driven decisions inspired me to work in healthcare, where I can make a meaningful impact on both organizational efficiency and patient outcomes.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day involves developing, configuring and supporting data interfaces, conducting database support and coordinating with vendors to ensure system and data availability. Working in this field is dynamic, with a rewarding sense of contributing to healthcare improvements through technology.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been employed here since January 8, 2024, working as a data and interface analyst. I have focused on integration and data support throughout my time here.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Some significant changes include the implementation of new data integration models, Portage data migration, Common Key Service Project with Michigan Health Information Network (MiHIN) and Upper Peninsula Information Exchange (UPHIE), Ensemble to Rhapsody migration and the continuous enhancement of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) security and compliance standards.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Outside of work, I enjoy family time, playing badminton and watching ice hockey matches at Tech. My favorite local spots are Princess Point and Copper Harbor.
