What is your role at UPHS – Portage?
I am a physical therapist and the rehab supervisor at UP Health System – Portage.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I love helping others, and this profession gives me the opportunity to do that daily. I also have a big interest in athletics, and this profession gives me opportunities to work closely with high school and college athletes.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
Each day and each individual we come across is a little bit different. We have the unique opportunity of working with individuals across the lifespan, with varying types of injuries and sometimes for extended periods of time. You really start to get to know people and become part of their lives.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been employed at UPHS – Portage for two and a half years and a Physical Therapist for 10. I was recently promoted to Rehab Supervisor.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
Each year you continue to grow through clinical experience as well as continuing education. Our knowledge base continues to grow and improve with continued research.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I enjoy running, biking, weightlifting and spending time outdoors with my family. My family and I love to travel to Copper Harbor when we get the chance.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Portage?
I enjoy the positive work culture. The team is supportive, and everyone wants to help each other out.
