What is your role at UPHS?
I am the Clinic Care Coordinator for Cardiovascular Surgery at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I took health occupations when I was in high school and was a unit clerk shadow on the surgical floor. The nurses knew I was thinking about going into nursing, so they took me under their wing and here I am today.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
We really don't have typical days in cardiology. We serve patients across the Upper Peninsula and beyond. Our practice is large and we get calls from providers who are referring their patients to UP Health System – Marquette. We see patients in the clinic and schedule their heart procedures.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I worked almost 20 years in the operating room, 13 years in cardiology and two years as a clinic coordinator. In July, I will have been in nursing for 38 years.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Seeing additional providers come into our practice has been so positive. They are bringing new and exciting procedures for patients so they can get heart services right here in our community and stay close to home.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I love to quilt and sew. I love Lake Superior. Anywhere you go in the Upper Peninsula is beautiful. I also would never pass up a trip to Hobby Lobby.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I enjoy the team of people in our office, the providers I work with and—above all—our patients.
