What is your role at UPHS?
I am a Medical Assistant in the Brain & Spine Center Neurology Clinic at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
When I was young my grandpa was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. It sparked a drive to learn more about how the body works, how things can go wrong in the body and how we can strive to make things better.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day includes responding to patient communications, entering orders, speaking to insurance companies and other facilities, and supporting our providers in the care we give. There’s always something to be done.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been working at the hospital since 2018. At the time, I had started in the Contact Center and a few years later moved to Neurology medical records. I wanted to be more directly involved with our patients so I jumped at the opportunity to be a medical assistant.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Some of the biggest changes are the constant scientific developments in care as well as records interfacing.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I love the arts, nature and reading. You can most likely find me and my camera at Wetmore Landing or Presque Isle. Snowbound has been my favorite for books and I love listening to the local Daydreamers band.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I love my coworkers and serving others. I love being able to share a laugh or a smile to make someone’s day better.
