UP Health System – Marquette Heroes Amanda Latini, REEGT
April 19, 2024
What is your role at UPHS?
I am a registered neurophysiology technologist at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I grew up with a passion for science, especially with the brain and anatomy. I wanted to apply that drive to be a part of directly helping patients in the neurology field.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day involves providing electroencephalograms (EEGs) to all patient populations from NICU to end-of-life care and everything in between. No day is the same and I get to meet so many wonderful patients and their families. The field is constantly evolving as technology becomes more advanced and we get to see that as we interact and provide testing to our patients daily.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been with our hospital for three years and have grown from a trainee in this position to a registered lead tech in that time.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
We have adapted to working with new telemedicine providers, building communication and a good working relationship with their team. We have also begun planning and preparing our department to implement our new electronic medical record system through team building and training.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I love to spend time in the pool and at the gym with my three children. My favorite local gem is Presque Isle. When it's warm, we always spend time on the beach and walking the trails.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I enjoy being a part of rural healthcare and providing a service to our patients and providers that is limited in this area. I work with so many wonderful people in all areas of this hospital and I appreciate everyone I get to interact with—from nurses to clinic staff, and especially our team and leadership here in our department.
