What is your role at UP Health System – Portage?
I am a perioperative nurse.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
Working in this field can be stressful at times, but it is also very rewarding. People coming for surgery are often nervous or in pain — caring for them and keeping them safe and comfortable gives you a sense of accomplishment.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I’ve been employed here for three years as an Operating Room (OR) RN and I have just recently started working in the Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU).
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
A very recent big and exciting change is the addition of the da Vinci Robotic-Assisted Surgical System to our OR equipment.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I enjoy camping, kayaking and spending time with my family and friends.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Portage?
The best part of working at Portage is the people. We have an excellent team here which makes work enjoyable.
