Meet the Doctor: Lauren Lemery, FNP-C, MSN, Family Medicine

Lauren Lemery, FNP-C, MSN, is a board-certified family medicine nurse practitioner at UP Medical Group | Marquette Family Medicine, located at 1414 W. Fair Ave, Ste. 36, Marquette, MI. She provides comprehensive primary care services for individuals of all ages, from newborn to geriatric care.
Q: When did you first think of becoming a healthcare provider?
A: In 2018—I was working full time in the UPHS – Marquette Emergency Department (ED) as a registered nurse. I loved seeing the doctor's getting to be so hands on and I thought, "I want to do more."
Q: Where did you receive your medical education?
A: I completed both my undergraduate and graduate studies at Northern Michigan University; they have a really amazing nursing program which allowed me to remain in the Upper Peninsula, which was a priority.
Q: Why did you choose your specialty?
A: With my background in nursing, I was seeing a lot of patients who didn't need to be in the ED and wouldn't be if they had easier access to primary care on a regular basis. I felt I could do more from a preventative standpoint, rather than treating a condition after it has already become a problem.
Q: What do you find most compelling about your role as a medical care provider?
A: Working in Family Medicine, I still get to see a little bit of everything, like I did in the ED. It puts me in a great position to offer education to my patients about their health conditions and provide the opportunity to share their options for treatment. I think it is so important to involve each patient in the decision-making process. I'm a big advocate for patients taking charge of their healthcare.
Q: What drew you to UP Health System?
A: I wanted to work for an organization with access to specialty services. Something as simple as not having to leave town for specialty care makes all the difference for our patients.
Q: What do you love most about living in the Upper Peninsula?
A: I love getting to experience all four seasons! There is something I love to do outdoors no matter the weather. Also, who doesn't love Mother Superior?
Q: What are your interests outside of work?
A: I enjoy hiking, biking, camping, reading, baking, and spending time with my husband and our son.
