What is your role at UPHS – Bell?
I’m a registered nurse in labor and delivery at UPHS - Bell.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
Growing up, I got to watch my mom go to nursing school and become a nurse, which inspired me to want to help people. I always knew I wanted to work in healthcare, but it wasn’t until I worked as a care aide that I really saw what nurses do. It was at that point that I decided it was the career path I wanted to take.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
There is no “typical day” on labor and delivery, which is one of the aspects that I love about my job. I’ve come to appreciate the saying “our unit is like the weather; it can change in minutes.” The variety is what keeps our days fun and exciting!
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I’ve been at Bell for almost a year and a half, and I've always been on OB.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
So far, there haven’t been any big changes that I’ve experienced.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Outside of work, I have a teenager and husband that I love to spend time with, as well as our dog and small flock of chickens. We spend a lot of time at camp, playing pickleball, and doing anything to get us outside when it’s nice. On colder days, I love to snuggle up with a good book and a cup of coffee.
My favorite local gems would have to be Lagniappe’s for dinner or Superior Culture for kombucha, both in Marquette. That’s where my husband and I go for some of our date nights. Or anywhere along Lake Superior with my daughter to look for beach glass.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?
The best part of my job is who I work with; from the staff nurses to the OB and Peds doctors. Their ability to work as a team and help each other out, and the strength and brilliance of them all, is unmatched in my experience.
