What is your role at UPHS – Bell?
I am a receptionist for occupational medicine.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
Healthcare was never my first choice, but I grew to love it. I enjoyed learning how we all come together in our roles to serve our patients. I enjoy being helpful and kind to others, whether it's just a friendly hello while giving directions or scheduling their appointment.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
I have a to-do list and work through it throughout the day. The tasks vary from day to day, so I am never bored. Working in all of the different departments means I get to meet a lot of interesting and kind people every day.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
It has been 5 years as of this September. I started out as a floating receptionist in Family Medicine and found my place in Express Care for a few years. Now I am learning all about Occupational Medicine while still helping where I can if needed.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Since I’ve worked here, I have started a family, met a ton of new friends, and remembered how much I enjoy working with people.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I spend time with my 2 daughters, Olive and Remi, going to all the parks, libraries and walking downtown Ishpeming. My time off is often filled with Target trips, puzzles, waterfall hunting and pretending to know anything about Fantasy football. My favorite local gem is the Heritage Trail! I can jump on it close to my house and it takes me to the coolest places.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?
I enjoy the environment at UP Health System Bell. Everyone is welcoming and lighthearted. I feel like I am walking into a second home when I come to work.
