UP Health System – Marquette is proud to recognize Grace Roelant, RN, of the Cardiac Unit, as this quarter's recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®. The DAISY Award is part of the DAISY Foundation's mission to honor the exceptional, compassionate care nurses provide to patients and families every day.

Roelant was recognized for her attentiveness, compassion and commitment to ensuring patients and families feel heard and supported during difficult moments.

The nomination came from the wife of a patient who was admitted to the hospital after experiencing severe chest pain. After a long, stressful day filled with uncertainty, the family met Roelant when they arrived on the Cardiac Unit.

According to the nomination, Roelant immediately took the time to listen to their concerns, address an unmet patient need and provide clear communication about the patient's care. Her kindness, follow-through and reassuring presence helped ease the family's anxiety during a challenging experience.

The nominator also noted that Roelant's compassion extended beyond their own family, observing her provide the same level of encouragement and support to other patients on the unit.

"Grace was the first person we met that really listened," the nomination read.

Through her dedication to patient-centered care, thoughtful communication and genuine compassion, Roelant demonstrated the qualities that define extraordinary nursing and earned the lasting appreciation of the family she cared for.

"Grace's nomination is a powerful reminder of the impact nurses have when they take the time to truly listen and connect with patients and families," said Meg McConnell, DNP, MSN, RN, chief nursing officer at UP Health System – Marquette. "Her compassion, attention to detail and commitment to meeting her patients' needs exemplify the very best of nursing. We are proud to recognize Grace with the DAISY Award."
