UP Health System – Marquette welcomes neurologist Laith Freij, MD

 UP Health System – Marquette is pleased to welcome Laith Freij, MD, to its team of neurologists at the UP Health System – Marquette Brain and Spine Center. Dr. Freij brings specialized training in neurology and subspecialty training in epilepsy.

As a neurologist, Dr. Freij provides care for adults with a wide range of neurological conditions. His areas of focus include general adult neurology, epilepsy and seizure disorders, EEG testing and interpretation, headache and migraine, stroke, memory and cognitive issues, movement disorders and peripheral neuropathy.

Dr. Freij earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit and his Bachelor of Science in neuroscience from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He completed his neurology residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, followed by an epilepsy fellowship and a clinical neurophysiology fellowship at UIC. During his epilepsy fellowship, he gained experience managing complex epilepsy cases in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including a high volume of surgical and stereo-electroencephalography (sEEG) cases.

“I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to make a positive impact on people's lives, particularly in an underserved region,” Dr. Freij said. “Building longitudinal relationships with patients is highly rewarding on a human level.”

Dr. Freij chose to live and practice in the Upper Peninsula because he appreciates its pristine natural beauty and its down-to-earth, supportive culture. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing chess and tennis, and exploring natural landmarks.
