What is your role at UP Health System?

I am the network analyst and facility information security officer at UP Health System - Portage.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

From the time I was young, I always talked about being a doctor. As time went on, I realized that amount of school was not for me. I worked several jobs and changed careers four times since high school, and eventually it brought me back to healthcare. This is a different capacity than I would have thought when I was in elementary school, but I am still able to be a part of the healthcare system.

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

A typical day for me usually consists of working toward upgrading our backend healthcare software and systems to stay up to date with the latest software. Working in the IT field is both rewarding and frustrating at the same time. Frustrating when things that are supposed to work don’t, and rewarding when you find the reason those things aren’t working and can fix the problem.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I've been here for one and a half years, always as a network analyst.

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?

The biggest change has been the change in IT directors. This has brought clear direction and leadership to the department.

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

Outside of work, I spend time with my family. I love winter and winter sports. My oldest daughter and I have been running sled dogs for the last 4 years. We will both race this winter, so much of my time outside of work is spent helping train our race team.

My favorite local gem is Mount Bohemia. As a local, I like to save a few personal days a year to go snowboarding during the week on great powder days.

What do you enjoy most about working at UP Health System?

I enjoy the people I work with and the friendliness of all the staff.
