UP Health System – Marquette earns renewal of ACR mammography accreditation

September 15, 2026

MARQUETTE, Mich. (Sept. 15, 2026) — UP Health System – Marquette has earned a three-year term of accreditation in mammography from the American College of Radiology® (ACR®) following a recent review of the hospital’s breast imaging services.

The accreditation recognizes facilities that meet rigorous standards for image quality, patient safety, personnel qualifications, equipment, quality control and quality assurance. The ACR gold seal of accreditation is awarded following a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.

“Accreditations such as this are very important to our hospital, and it’s essential that our patients can access high-quality care close to home,” said Tonya Darner, market chief executive officer, UP Health System – Marquette. “Renewing our ACR accreditation is evidence of our staff’s continued commitment to the health of this community and furthers our mission of making communities healthier.”

UPHS – Marquette offers digital breast tomosynthesis, commonly known as 3D mammography, for breast cancer screening and diagnostic imaging. The technology captures multiple images of the breast from different angles, allowing radiologists to view breast tissue in thin slices. 3D mammography can improve cancer detection and reduce the need for additional imaging, particularly for women with dense breast tissue.

Mammography is an important tool for the early detection of breast cancer. Regular screening can help detect breast cancer before symptoms develop, when treatment may be more effective.
