UP Health System – Marquette Welcomes Interventional Cardiologist Andrew Pap, MD

August 31, 2026

UP Health System is pleased to welcome interventional cardiologist Andrew Pap, MD, to the Heart & Vascular Center at UP Health System – Marquette.

Dr. Pap specializes in interventional cardiology, with a clinical focus on coronary artery disease. His expertise includes percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), patent foramen ovale (PFO) and atrial septal defect (ASD) closure, and percutaneous mechanical pulmonary thrombectomy.

A Marquette native, Dr. Pap chose to return to the Upper Peninsula to practice medicine and raise his family in the community where he grew up.

“I had the privilege of growing up in Marquette,” Dr. Pap said. “I recognized early on how fortunate I was to have majestic scenery, incredible fishing and superb hiking at my doorstep. I also appreciated the supportive and selfless community of the Upper Peninsula. Now with children of my own, I wanted to provide them with a similar experience.”

Dr. Pap earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and a bachelor’s degree in general biology with a minor in psychology from Michigan Technological University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He completed his internal medicine residency, cardiovascular disease fellowship and interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin. During his cardiovascular disease fellowship, he served as chief fellow from 2024 to 2025.

Before joining UP Health System – Marquette, Dr. Pap served as an assistant clinical professor in the hospitalist division at UW Health. He has also held numerous leadership and teaching roles throughout his medical education and career, including president of the UW House Staff Association, member of the UW Health Medical Board and Graduate Medical Education Committee, and cardiovascular medicine chief fellow.

For Dr. Pap, the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives is one of the most rewarding aspects of medicine.

“As a medical provider, you frequently have the opportunity to change the course of someone's life, whether it be performing a procedure or having an important discussion about goals of care,” he said. “Being able to play a pivotal role in the lives of others has been the motivator to pursue this role.”

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Pap back to the Upper Peninsula and to our Heart & Vascular Center team,” said Tonya Darner, market chief executive officer of UP Health System – Marquette and UP Health System – Bell. “His advanced training in interventional cardiology and commitment to providing comprehensive cardiovascular care will further strengthen our ability to care for patients close to home.”

The Heart & Vascular Center at UP Health System – Marquette is a nationally recognized Cath Lab with PCI and Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI accreditation by the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Pap is now seeing patients at UP Health System – Marquette Heart & Vascular, located at 850 W. Baraga Ave., Suite 20, Marquette.
