What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?

I am a certified cardiac device specialist at UP Health System–Marquette (UPHS–Marquette).

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

I always wanted to have a career in healthcare where I could help take care of people. I took a few classes in college that pointed me towards cardiology and I haven’t looked back since!

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

In the Cardiac Device Clinic, we manage implanted devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators and loop recorders. Each day, we see patients in clinic for routine device checks to make sure everything is functioning properly. When needed, we troubleshoot issues and adjust device settings.

We manage approximately 2,000 devices across the Upper Peninsula, so every day is busy!

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I have worked at UP Health System–Marquette for eight years. I spent five years in cardiac rehabilitation before transitioning to the device clinic, where I have worked for the past three years.

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?

The technology in electrophysiology and cardiac devices is constantly advancing. I enjoy having a role that requires me to continually learn and stay up to date on the latest innovations.

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

I enjoy playing volleyball, running, doing crafts and spending time with family and friends. My favorite local gem is Presque Isle. I also love all of our restaurants like Lagniappe and Portside.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?

The best thing about my job is the opportunity to build relationships with patients and become a familiar, trusted part of their health care team. We have an excellent electrophysiology team, and I enjoy working closely with the physicians, advanced practice providers and nurses in the device clinic.
