What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?

I am a Quality Lead I at UP Health System – Marquette (UPHS – Marquette)

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

My biggest inspiration for becoming a nurse is my mom. Watching her help others and make a difference in people's lives inspired me to become a nurse.

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

I abstract cases for BCBSM (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan) Collaboratives, including OBI (Obstetrics Initiative) and MARCQI (Michigan Arthroplasty Registry Collaborative Quality Initiative). I review medical records, identify qualifying cases and enter clinical data into designated databases. The collected data is then used to evaluate outcomes, identify opportunities for improvement and implement strategies to enhance patient care and quality.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I have been employed here for seven years. I spent five years working in the cardiology office before transitioning to quality management, where I have been for the past two years.

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?

Transitioning from cardiology to learning a new field of obstetrics and orthopedics.

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family at the beach.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?

My co-workers are kind, welcoming, and supportive, which has made it easy to feel like part of the team.
