What has your career journey at UP Health System – Portage looked like?
I started as an RN on the inpatient unit, then moved into a house supervisor role for five years, and since December of 2025, I've been the assistant director of nursing at PortagePointe. It's been a path through various roles in the facility, with each bringing something new to the experience.
How has Portage helped you grow professionally?
The keyword I'll use here is "support". Throughout my career here, I've felt the support of both leadership and my teammates. Support can come from day-to-day help if I ask, or discussions on long-term goals in my future.
What do you enjoy most about your job at UP Health System – Portage?
I really enjoy working with people. Being able to help people during their time of need and make a meaningful impact in their lives is very fulfilling. I have found a lot of joy in meeting so many different people and making connections. My days are usually very busy and can vary quite a bit depending on what is currently going on at Portage Pointe. Nursing is a very challenging career, but it is extremely rewarding.
What makes UP Health System – Portage a great place to work?
The most enjoyable thing about working at Portage is the people that I get to work with. You can go into work knowing the people around you genuinely care about helping patients, elders and visitors. Portage has a great culture and is filled with good people all looking to help others in our community.
What would you tell someone considering a career at UP Health System – Portage?
Go for it; it may surprise you. You may be surprised by what you get to experience, or be surprised by the things you learn about yourself.
