What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?

I am a HIM (Health Information Management) support specialist at UP Health System – Marquette (UPHS – Marquette).

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

I have always wanted to work in healthcare, helping people. I was going to school for nursing while working in HIM as a temporary employee, later to get hired full-time. While working in HIM, I have been able to help patients in different ways and decided to continue to help patients through the medical records world.

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

I work closely with billing and coding to make sure patient accounts are moving along properly in their process. I also work with insurance companies, making sure they’re getting their medical 
records and appeals. I work with government agencies to ensure they get their medical records. Most days are straightforward and others have their challenges.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I have worked at UPHS – Marquette for 21 years in Health Information Management. I have had several different job titles during that time

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?  

I have been here through all the EMR (Electronic Medical Record) system changes. 

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem? 

I love spending time with my family. I love baking and cooking. We enjoy spending time at our family cabin in Autrain.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?

I enjoy working in HIM. We have an amazing team.
