What is your role at UPHS – Bell?
I am a registered nurse on the labor and delivery unit at UP Health System – Bell.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I have always enjoyed helping people. When I was in middle school, my brother had a hiking accident and broke his back. I remember doing everything I could to help him get better and being so excited watching him improve.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
Part of what I love about my job is the variety from day to day. My roles vary from antepartum, labor, and postpartum.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been at Bell for almost five years now, always on OB.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
The biggest change for me was being a patient on the unit myself. Being in labor and giving birth brought me a whole new perspective on what my patients are going through. It has helped me understand and advocate for my patients better.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I love being outside in the summer and doing crafts, like crochet, during the winter. My favorite local gem is Sugarloaf. It is a perfect little hike with great views.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?
My coworkers. I feel so lucky to work with such a great group of people.
