UPHS – Marquette Heroes | Kris MacArthur

June 04, 2026

What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?

I am the Regional Director of Physician Services at UP Health System – Marquette.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

I went to nursing school after I graduated. Truthfully, I was looking for a path and decided to give it a try. A few friends were going into the same program, I was accepted, and I jumped in. That decision turned out to be the right one.

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

Our days are very full and, at times, chaotic. We go from putting out fires to planning for our future state, identifying best practices, securing the right services for our community, and everything in between. I work with phenomenal leaders and executives who give 150% to support our departments and staff.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I came to work for UPHS in November 2013 from another Upper Peninsula hospital as a Regional Director and happily continue in that position today.

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?

The new medical office building and hospital, the COVID-19 pandemic, and several changes in CEO leadership have all brought challenges along the way. We are now glad to have strong leadership in place that has led to many positive changes for our patients, facility, and employees.

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

I enjoy spending time with my family and my four grandchildren, along with boating, golfing, and taking in the great outdoors here in the Upper Peninsula. My favorite local gem is Indian Lake Golf Course in Manistique.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?

My team! I love working with our employees, physicians and providers; everyone is so committed to providing quality care to our communities, and I am proud to be a part of that every day!
