What is your role at UPHS – Portage?

I'm a financial analyst at UP Health System – Portage.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

What drew me to UPHS – Portage was the value on the community. Being born and raised in Hancock, this was definitely something that was important to me.

What's a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

A typical day for me as a financial analyst focuses on different reconciliations, daily statistical reporting, preparing reports for managers, looking into/explaining any variances and working through our month-end close checklist.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I have been employed here for about 3 years. I started as a staff accountant and transitioned to my current role as a financial analyst around 8 months ago.

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?

One huge change I have experienced in this position is working with the new corporate branch of Lifepoint Business Services (LBS). I have had to learn new processes for many tasks, take part in training, and learn new systems since LBS took place.

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife Aili and my dog Murphy. We spend a ton of time in the summer at the camp with family and friends. I also love to dirt bike, watch football (Go Bills), and anything else outdoors. There are many great spots up here, but my local gem is Canyon Falls.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Portage?

What I enjoy most about working at Portage is the culture and environment. The people here are great to work with, and the overall culture is top-notch.
