What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am a charge recon specialist, but I also manage the inventory for the Cardiac Cath Lab at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I started working for Manpower in the Admitting Department in 2002 and really enjoyed working at the hospital.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day for me is very busy. I start early in the morning, making sure all of the cath labs are ready to go. Then I focus on inventory and making sure we have all of the supplies needed for our cases. Lastly, I go through patient charts for the charge recon portion of my job.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I started working at the hospital in 2002 in the Admitting Department in registration. Then, in 2003, I came to the Cardiac Cath Lab as a monitor tech. Years later, my position transitioned into inventory and charge recon.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
We have gone through many big changes in the last 24 years. Some of the biggest challenges in the last few years have been moving to our new location and implementing new programs such as Cerner, Oracle and SMART.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my three children and two grandchildren. Some of my hobbies are hiking, kayaking, camping and traveling. Some of my favorite local hiking trails are the Noquemenon Trail Network South trails and Hogsback. I also enjoy the beach as much as possible in the summer.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I am very grateful to be part of the team at UP Health System. They have allowed me a lot of flexibility over the years, including allowing me to transition from full-time to part-time when my children were little, then allowing me to transition back to full-time employment when I was ready. They have also allowed me to take on different roles and challenges over the years. I feel appreciated by both management and my coworkers.
