May 12, 2026

UP Health System – Marquette (UPHS – Marquette) is pleased to welcome Frederic Joyce, M.D., to its cardiothoracic surgery team.

Dr. Joyce specializes in cardiothoracic surgery, including coronary artery bypass grafting; surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR); transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR); mitral valve repair and replacement; surgery for ascending aortic aneurysm; and surgery for atrial fibrillation. He is dedicated to delivering high-quality care for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions and focuses on improving outcomes through precision, innovation and a patient-centered approach.

Dr. Joyce earned his Doctor of Medicine from Aarhus University in Aarhus, Denmark. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Rochester, earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology.

“I choose to practice in the Upper Peninsula because of the great hospital, wonderful colleagues and patients who are truly appreciative of the care they receive,” Joyce said. “The natural beauty of the region is an added bonus. Practicing at UP Health System allows me to work alongside great people every day, and what I find most compelling is the craftsmanship of heart surgery—helping patients overcome life-threatening and life-impairing conditions while making a real difference in their lives.”

Outside of work, Dr. Joyce enjoys sailing, skiing and mountain and road biking, as well as entrepreneurship.

Dr. Joyce will see patients at UPHS – Marquette Heart & Vascular. Patients interested in scheduling an appointment should call 906.449.3440. A referral may be necessary before scheduling.

UPHS – Marquette provides a range of cardiac services, from preventive care and screenings to high-level emergency care at its Level II Trauma Center and Accredited Chest Pain Center. Chest discomfort, shortness of breath or an irregular heartbeat may be signs of a heart problem and should be evaluated by a physician.
