The Gertrude Decker Hellman Excellence in Nursing Award was established in 2005 by a community member who received compassionate care at UP Health System – Portage. Deeply impressed by the nursing staff during her illness, Gertrude and her family established the award through a donation in recognition of that care.
All candidates that are nominated must demonstrate the following skills to be considered for a nomination:
- Demonstrates exemplary knowledge of the nursing process
- Consistently practices patient advocacy while demonstrating integrity in communication and actions
- Demonstrates excellence in patient care
- Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration in addressing the needs of the patient and their family
We proudly acknowledge the excellent care our nursing staff has extended to our patients over the years, and it is our honor to recognize this year’s recipient of the annual Gertrude Decker Hellman Excellence in Nursing Award: Callie Donnelly, RN.
Callie has been praised by colleagues for having a "can-do" attitude, greeting each challenge as an opportunity to do right by someone else. Her peers cite a quiet confidence in her role, instilling a sense of comfort in all her patients. She is frequently recognized by patients in post-discharge phone calls and patient surveys for providing exceptional care.
Congratulations, Callie, we're grateful for your passion and dedication to our community.
