What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?

I am a radiation therapist at UP Health System – Marquette.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

A cancer diagnosis within my family led to firsthand exposure to the power of compassionate healthcare. During her radiation treatment, my family member repeatedly expressed how remarkable her radiation therapists were and how much comfort they brought her during an overwhelming time. Their influence left a lasting impression on me and inspired my passion to pursue a career where I can support others through challenging moments and create a truly meaningful life.

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

Each day is dynamic and rewarding. Caring for patients and getting to know who they are beyond their cancer diagnosis is the highlight of my work. I am fortunate to be part of a skilled, compassionate team that shares this same commitment. Our patients are incredibly special to us, and treating them with dignity and empathy is at the center of everything we do.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I began my career here as a radiation therapist in 2006.

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?

Since the start of my career, radiation oncology technology has evolved tremendously. Treatments today are far more efficient, targeted and technologically advanced, improving patient care and outcomes. It’s wild to look back on how far we’ve come, and I often catch myself reminiscing about the old days and sharing those experiences with the younger generation of therapists and students!

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

Outside of work, I’m a sports mom through and through. Baseball and softball season are my favorite time of year and a big part of how we spend time together as a family. We’re not at Steiger Field in Bessemer often, but it’s a beautiful place to catch a game. We also love traveling together to tractor and steam engine shows across Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. At heart, I’m a simple, farm‑raised Wisconsin girl who truly enjoys slowing down and appreciating life outside of work. Whether we’re in the stands or on the road, that family time is what matters most to me and helps keep life balanced.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?

I am fortunate to work alongside an exceptional team of radiation therapists and nurses, and I truly love the people I work with. We support each other daily and foster a clinic atmosphere that is welcoming and comfortable, all while delivering high‑quality, compassionate care to our patients.
