UPHS – Marquette Heroes | Megan Thiel

April 24, 2026

What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?

I am an operations manager for Medical Specialists and Sleep Medicine at UP Health System – Marquette.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

My mother worked as the RN nurse manager for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) department; her unwavering strength, resilience and unconditional love have guided me through life’s challenges.

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

I’m usually in the clinic before most staff reviewing timecards and catching up on emails.  Throughout the day, I field calls and emails from staff and providers I manage, providing guidance and support when/where needed.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I have spent 25 years with the system, starting as a clinic office clerk in Family Medicine. From there, I transferred to the Medical Specialists clinic, where I moved into operations management 10 years ago.

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?

Healthcare itself is forever changing, which makes this job interesting every day. I’m able to learn something new.

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

Outside of work, I enjoy camping with my husband, Greg, our two children, Gregory and Mykenna, and our three dogs, Bella, Piper and Maisie.

My favorite local gem is a boat ride to Rum Runners and Blackrocks.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?

I love how everyone I work with—the staff, providers and leadership—comes together to care for members of our community.
