UP Health System – Marquette Welcomes Neil Umles, MD, to Nephrology Team

UP Health System – Marquette (UPHS – Marquette) is pleased to welcome Neil Umles, MD, to its Medical Specialists nephrology team. He provides comprehensive care for patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, glomerulonephritis, electrolyte disorders and those requiring hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

Dr. Umles brings advanced training in internal medicine and nephrology with experience in high-acuity hospital settings, including transplant-level care environments. He is committed to improving kidney health through evidence-based treatment, patient education and collaborative care.

“I chose the Upper Peninsula for its beauty and its people and UP Health System for its purpose,” Umles said. “I’m driven by the opportunity to care for a community in need and to engage in meaningful teaching and collaboration every day.”

Dr. Umles earned his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. He earned a Bachelor of Science in neurobiology, physiology and behavior from the University of California, Davis, and an Associate of Science in natural sciences from Orange Coast College.

He completed his internal medicine residency at Ascension St. John Hospital in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, in 2022. He then served as chief nephrology fellow at Ascension St. John Hospital from 2022 to 2024, completing advanced fellowship training with transplant center experience.

Outside of work, Dr. Umles enjoys biking, skiing and following football and baseball. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and son.

He joins the nephrology team at UP Medical Group – Medical Specialists, 1414 W. Fair Ave., Ste. 344, Marquette, MI 49855. He is accepting new patients.
