What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am a physical therapist
assistant on the inpatient rehabilitation unit at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I had always wanted to work in
health care, but wasn’t sure in what capacity until I tore my ACL in a high
school track and hurdle injury. The surgery and physical therapy I went through
inspired me to pursue my career in this field.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
Most of
my time is spent on the medical/surgical/oncology unit. Every day is different,
and I love that. I work with many unique patients with a variety of conditions
and diagnoses, all sharing the same goal: getting better and returning to their
prior level of function. I love being part of their journey and helping make
that happen.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been working at the
hospital in the same role for seven years, and I have worked as a physician’s
therapist assistant in general for 19 years.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
There have been many changes
during my time here. We are always striving to improve patient care, and being
able to adapt constantly is essential to being the best we can be.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Outside of work, I love
spending time with my kids and family. I also enjoy baking and cooking, as well
as camping and hiking.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I enjoy working with our community, supporting patients when they are often at their lowest, and working as a team to help them reach their goals. It’s especially rewarding to run into former patients in the community, thriving and functioning well again. I work with a fantastic rehab team and am very grateful for my coworkers.
