What is your role at UPHS – Bell?
I am a registered nurse case manager at UPHS – Bell.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I knew I wanted to work in a field that had many different options and opportunities. When I was a kid, I didn’t always know what I wanted to do when I grew up, but when I found that nursing and healthcare had a wide range of avenues, that really drew me to the field.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day feels different every day! I spend a lot of time coordinating hospital discharges and post-acute services that patients and families may need.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
It will be three years this summer since I have been at Bell, all in the same position
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Case Management also encompasses Utilization Review, so I feel like insurance processes have changed and continue to do so just in the three years I’ve been here.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I enjoy time with my family and being a spectator at the activities my kids are involved in. My favorite local gems are any of the beaches on Lake Superior. U.P. summers are the best!
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?
I enjoy the variety of work my days in Case Management bring and the team we have at UPHS - Bell!
