UPHS – Marquette Heroes | Stacy Kohl, BSN RN

February 06, 2026

What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?

I am a clinical manager in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) at UP Health System – Marquette.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

Since I was a child, I have wanted to be in healthcare.  My inspiration to be a nurse is my mother.  She became an LPN when I was a teenager.  Her drive and dedication to her schooling while working and taking care of her family showed me it was possible.

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

A typical day as a manager is the day-to-day running of the ICU, staffing, scheduling, assisting staff, patient satisfaction, and problem-solving, to name a few.  Nursing is a fast and ever-changing field that I thrive in.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I have been employed at UP Health System for 17 years this month.  Prior to accepting the ICU manager position this past December, I worked as a night shift RN in the ICU.

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?

Since starting my nursing career 17 years ago, I have seen a multitude of changes in healthcare.  Some of the biggest changes at our hospital have been going from paper charting to electronic charting and moving to the new hospital.

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

Outside of work I enjoy time with my two teenage daughters and my husband.  We enjoy traveling together the most.  My husband and I are also passionate about home remodeling.  My favorite part of Marquette is Lake Superior.  We are lucky to live in such a beautiful place.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?

I most enjoy the family atmosphere amongst my co-workers.  We are in this together every day.
