UPHS – Bell Heroes | Tara Alderton

January 30, 2026

What is your role at UPHS – Bell?

I am a certified medical assistant in occupational medicine at UP Health System – Bell.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

Helping people has always been a passion of mine. I strive to be someone patients are comfortable coming to when they are in need.

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

When working in occupational medicine, each day is different. It’s typically a fast-paced environment. Something new happens every day! Most of my time is spent in the clinic conducting physicals and drug screens for individuals seeking new employment. However, I also do things offsite, such as CPR training, health fairs, DNR exams, etc.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I started here at Bell in June of 2023. I began in family medicine, working with Dr. Prevost, where I learned a lot and gained so much experience. After two years of working with Dr. Prevost, I took a position in Occ Med to expand my knowledge and open myself up to new opportunities.

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?

Switching from family medicine to occupational medicine has been the biggest change I’ve experienced since working here. The environment and population of patients between the two clinics are quite different from each other, but I’m always up for a challenge!

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

Outside of work, you’ll typically find me spending time with my friends and family. I like to do anything from movie nights and boat days on the Dead River to concerts and exploring new places around Marquette.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?

My favorite thing about working at UP Health System is the support team I have behind me. My coworkers have become family and are always on my team. They make coming to work every day so much easier, and I could not imagine it any other way!
